This fascinating metropolis where East meets West will not fail to captivate you during your stay in Istanbul for the The international Malazgirt Trophy. Formerly known as Constantinople, the economic capital of Turkey has everything to offer the visitor, whether it be historical, cultural or sporting events in addition to the plethora of traditional restaurants whose succulent cuisine will definitely make your stay a memorable one! Located on the Bosphorous strait this vibrant city has managed to combine the vestiges of the Byzantine, Greek and Roman eras with modern day life.
Take time during your stay to visit the Topkapi Palace, a 15th century marvel from the Ottoman Empire, taking you back to the time of the Sultan rulers and their harems or the famous Blue Mosque, an architectural wonder for all to admire. An unforgettable experience is a Turkish bath, in one of the decorative buildings with their domes, tellaks, natirs and embroidered walls. The Grand Bazaar, a town within a city, is also a must for the bargain hunter; 4,000 shops and stalls displaying all the goods from antiques to jewellery and clothes. Many modern day designers have been to the Grand Bazaar for inspiration for their new collections.
The list is never ending for you to enjoy during this 4 day trip which culminates in a day at Veliefendi racecourse for the The International Malazgirt Trophy. This takes place on Sunday 4 September and we will be accommodated in a private facility overlooking the track. In past years many English trainers have entered their horses in this event which is the highlight of the Turkish racing calendar.
Our stay will be at the The Ritz Carlton Istanbul, located in the heart of the city, this stylish establishment has every modern amenity expected of a new 5* hotel. Situated amongst the historic Akaretler Row Houses you can enjoy eating, entertainment, shopping or sightseeing, all within walking distance.
Friday 6th September
Depart London for Istanbul. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the The Ritz Carlton for your 3 night stay. Evening is at leisure
Saturday 7th September
Day free until late afternoon departure to the racecourse OR join us on an optional tour of the city including lunch. We will return in time for the departure to the racecourse.
Sunday 8th September
Departure from the hotel at approximately 13.30 hrs for Veliefendi racecourse for a late afternoon’s race meeting, the main race of the meeting being the The international Malazgirt Trophy. Buffet lunch included. Return to the hotel after racing where the remainder of the evening is free
Monday 9th September
Morning at leisure before mid afternoon departure to the airport for the return flight to London
