This year we are pleased to offer a weekend in provincial France in the stylish city
of Bordeaux where one can incorporate racing, fine wines and gastronomy. This elegant
provincial city, the sixth largest in France not far from the Atlantic coast with
its 18th century buildings and narrow streets of the old town contrasting with the
wide boulevards lined with designer boutiques, is an ideal place to spend a weekend.
Under English domination for many decades, the town prospered with the wine trade
and has become the renowned capital of wine throughout the world.
Racing takes place
on Saturday 26 May at the Bouscat racecourse located near the city centre where many
famous French jockeys come to compete in this finale of the flat season. Last year
the Grand Prix de Bordeaux saw Mendizabal ride to victory on Skins Game, followed
by the favourite Aizavoski ridden by Soumillon. The track was first opened in 1836
and since the year 2000 has undergone a complete renovation programme. It has 32
meetings a year for all three disciplines, flat, hurdles and trotting. Lunch can
be reserved in the panoramic restaurant, cost of which will be advised separately.
Accommodation
has been reserved in the 5* Grand Hotel de Bordeaux & Spa, this recently renovated
establishment has all the amenities that a 5* hotel has to offer, located in the
heart of the city. Elegantly appointed rooms, a Michelin star restaurant, Le Pressoir
d'Argent, specialising in seafood, the Brasserie de l'Europe the Orangerie restaurant
and the Victor Bar, as well as a modern, equipped spa centre.
Included in the tour
is a visit to a well known wine cellar in the Medoc region where you will be able
to taste some of the most succulent Grand Cru before making your way to a renowned
Château for a relaxing, French, gourmet lunch. This is an epicurean experience not
to be missed, where one can combine the French culinary culture with pleasure and
racing.
